Matthew Perry, 48, looks happy and healthy as he is pictured with a mystery woman... just one month after cutting dishevelled figure on his birthday

He cut a dishevelled figure when he stepped out alone on his birthday with unkempt hair and stubble one month ago.

But Matthew Perry, 48, looked happier and healthier than ever as he ran errands in Beverly Hills, California with a mystery brunette on Thursday.

The former Friends star styled his hair into a neat quiff, and sported a clean-shaven look that was a far cry from his bedraggled appearance last month.

Matthew displayed a glowing, sun kissed complexion, that boasted of good health, while he clad his slim torso in a grey T-shirt.

The mystery woman looked incredibly glamorous, and sported groomed hair and make-up while making the most of her long legs in a pair of skinny jeans.

Matthew shot to fame as the wise-cracking Chandler Bing when he was 25, and starred in the 10 seasons that followed until 2004, where he and his co-stars became household names and world famous.

He was the youngest of the cast, with Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc and David Schwimmer one, two and three years older than him respectively, and Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox both six years his senior.

Yet the Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated star has become notoriously scruffy as he's aged, spotted two weeks ago with a mystery blonde in New York, looking extremely casual.

It was no secret that during his time on Friends the actor received treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.

This led to a noticeable difference in his appearance across Friends' 10 seasons.

Starting out as a healthy twentysomething in seasons one and two, Matthew dropped a lot of weight when season three rolled around, losing more as the season went on.

By the season three finale, Matthew was a shadow of his former self, and spent the show's summer hiatus between in 1997 in rehab.

He completed a 28-day program that summer for a Vicodin addiction, yet his weight yo-yo'd over the next few years, once dropping down to 145 pounds.

He lost 20 pounds in 2000 because of pancreatitis and then entered rehab again in February 2001 to treat an addiction to opioids (specifically vicodin and methadone), amphetamines and alcohol.

He was shooting movie Serving Sara with Elizabeth Hurley in Texas at the time when the addiction led to stomach pains.

On a doctor's advice, he checked into Marina del Rey's Daniel Freeman Hospital back in LA.

The star overcame his addiction, however, and by seasons nine and 10 of Friends was back to a healthy look.

As he has gotten older, however, the actor has opted for a casual and scruffier look when he's off duty.

He has been starring as Ted Kennedy opposite Katie Holmes in The Kennedys: After Camelot, which aired on Reelz back in April, and reprised his guest role as Mike Kresteva from The Good Wife for its spin-off series The Good Fight earlier this year.
